Tracy Lawrence Bus Tour

I love hitting the road for a radio tour but it is amazing to walk in the door of a station with a future Country Music Hall of Famer – that’s where I believe Tracy Lawrence will end up years from now. We were all over the SE last week and I want to thank everyone for being so welcoming to us as the Tracy Bus cruised into town. Here are some pics from our week out:

Here’s Cadillac and Dallas from the Kicks Atlanta morning team with Tracy in the middle…

From left to right, it’s US-101’s MD Dex & afternoon traffic reporter Melissa, Tracy, & PD Jay Cruse

Finally, it’s a glamour shot of Tracy’s bulldog Tank – I developed a man crush on him on the road – don’t tell Blue

WFSY/Panama City

WFSY/Panama City had an interesting event happen recently. The station changed it's positioning statement from "Today's Best Hits" to "Today's Best Music." The balloon manufacturers message came back just a bit different than what the station expected.

"LIVE, FROM...RHODE ISLAND!"

At the recent R.I. Radio Hall of Fame induction, McVay Media's star struck Holland Cooke met living legend Don Pardo, one of eight 2009 honorees. Pardo began his announcing career in 1938 at WJAR/Providence. Two years later, he began a "60 year and 6 month" stint at NBC/New York. Before his retirement 4 years ago, Pardo held one of only two of NBC's "lifetime contracts" (Bob Hope had the other). Since then, 91-year-old Pardo has commuted to New York 20 times a year to deliver his signature intro for "SATURDAY NIGHT LIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!"

Mike McVay made a recent visit to Las Vegas where he met with Donny & Marie Osmond

Mike McVay made a recent visit to Las Vegas where he met with Donny & Marie Osmond following their show at The Flamingo. (Left to Right) Donny Osmond and Mike McVay. We captioned this picture so that you wouldn't be confused as to who is who.

Mike McVay with the always beautiful Marie Osmond. She gave Mike several tips on dancing, given her recent experiences on the hit TV show "Dancing with the Stars." The most important thing that Marie said to Mike was "Don't dance."

Mike McVay backstage at the Flamingo following a recent Donny & Marie Osmond performance, showing them his famous "Monkey Mike Face." Those readers who've never met Mike are probably unaware that he can mimic an entire zoo of animals. The giraffe is one of his best imitations, but he does a good job of making a Monkey face ... as seen here.

Donny Osmond, Mike and Marie Osmond ... three people in their 50's ... of which ONLY ONE looks over 50! Hey Mike .... You need to move to Utah. The fountain of youth must be hidden there.

Mike McVay with Donny and Marie Osmond. THIS ONE is the REAL shot for the trade publications.

Mike McVay Tours Delmarva-land

Mike McVay's tour through Delmarva-land took him to Delmarva Broadcastings stations in Central Delaware. Pictured (L-R) is the Delmarva team. OM/PD Steve Monz, APD Gary John, General Manager Mike Kazala and our fearless leader.

Mike McVay, Joe Edwards at the 97.5 Cat Country/Salisbury, MD morning team went to the Delmarva Shorebirds minor league baseball game during Mike's recent visit to the station. This picture is out of focus because Brian (of Dixie and Brian) had consumed so much alcohol that these two looked "in focus" to him.

The Shorebirds have a baseball player whose name is Hoes. It's pronounced in a fashion that made this picture seem funny when we snapped it.

"The Home That Marconi Built" .... also known as The Martin Estate.

Jim Martin, owner of River City Broadcasting, Mike McVay, Lee McCard (PD WJBO), Brian Thomas (PD of WKCN), Dave Arwood (PD of WGCQ) and Al Haynes (PD of 95-3/The Ride) pose in front of "The Home That Marconi Built" .... also known as The Martin Estate. The lovely Debbie Martin and her husband Jim & son Christopher welcomed Mike and the PD's into their home for some amazing souther cuisine.

The wide-camera view of The Martin Estate. The home, owned by Jim and Debbie Martin, was originally built in 1880 and was in downtown Columbus. It was disassembled in 1943 and rebuilt several miles outside of Columbus, GA. The home now sits on a hillside overlooking a beautiful lake and several hundred acres.

The Martin Family raises peacocks. The agressive male (named Romeo) lives in the wild and outside of the peacock coop. Living inside the pen, with the two hens, is the less agressive male ... and obviously the luckier bird. Jim Martin named the heretofor unnamed bird "Mike" after our fearless leader. We're not sure if the comparision is because Mike McVay is always preening like a peacock or if it's because he was the one who chided Jimbo for not having named the second male. Pictured is "Mike the Peacock."
