Porky Chedwick's 93rd Birthday

Porky Chedwick's 93rd birthday Friday was his first he ever celebrated outside of Pittsburgh (Porky is currently living in Tarpon Springs). Ed Salamon and Richie Merritt (of the Marcels) were among those who gathered at the home of another former Pittsburgher Ed Weigle (Nick Sommers Productions/the voice you hear on the WWF spots) in Venice Florida to help Porky feel less homesick. Lou Christie, Bobby Vinton and Jimmy Beaumont of the Skyliners were among the Pittsburgh artists who called Porky during the party with birthday greetings. Each expressed appreciation for his help in starting their careers. Pittsburgh radio personalities calling him that day included Mike Fraser (3WS), Sean McDowell (WDVE) and Charlie Apple. The event was covered by two Sarasota televison crews from ABC affiliate WWSB (Channel 7) and Newschannel 6, which aired stories that day.
